Helping Hands Individual Intensity Program

The Individual Intensity Program is a 2, 3, or 4-week, intensive therapy program providing constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT), bimanual training, and goal-directed training for clients with hemiplegia.

IIP can be beneficial for children exhibit areas for growth in the following:

  • Fine and gross motor
  • Balance and coordination
  • Visual-perceptual skills
  • Postural control/core strength
  • Sensory processing

At Intensive Therapeutics, we value a collaborative approach. The assigned occupational therapist will collaborate with parents to create a personalized treatment plan for your child.

Parents are interviewed prior to the program to gather up-to-date information about your child’s goals. We use an assessment tool that helps establish and prioritize the child’s functional goals and truly creates a system for the parents to be involved in the process. We welcome information from other therapists, schools, doctors, etc. in order to maximize the therapeutic experience.

Some examples of 2-handed / bimanual goals:

  • Pulling up socks/pants
  • Eating a sandwich
  • Buckling a seat belt
  • Carrying a lunch tray
  • Catching a ball

Your child will wear a non-removable cast for the first 2 weeks (cast is changed after 1st week and replaced with a new one). Starting with the 3rd week of camp, we “wean” the cast off 1 hour more each day so by the 4th week we are working exclusively with 2 hands. By doing this, we can work on and practice 2-handed (bimanual) skills and the actual goals of each child. We also recommend continuation of therapeutic activities as much as possible throughout the program.

Where to Stay during IIP

The Helping Hands House is a home for families attending our Helping Hands programs or Individual Intensity Program.

Located next door to our therapy center, the Helping Hands House is available year-round. The front porch and back deck of the house allow easy access to our therapy center.
