What is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy (PT) is a healthcare service that assists an individual to improve their strength, movement, balance, coordination, and overall physical function. Physical therapists provide evidence-based techniques, to help their clients achieve their highest level of independence and functional mobility in a fun, engaging environment. When working with a pediatric population, physical therapists help children to gain independence, build confidence and reach their developmental goals, whether it’s learning to crawl, walk, run, or participate in everyday activities.

Would my child benefit from Physical Therapy?

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s movement patterns and ability to crawl, walk, or participate in play activities, a physical therapist can perform a screen to determine if physical therapy would be a good fit for your child.

PT interventions can support a child with the following:

  • Reaching a developmental milestone
  • Improving gross motor skills
  • Addressing motor sequencing
  • Improving balance and coordination
  • Enhancing postural control/core strength
  • Maximizing recruitment of muscle stabilizers
  • Improving body mechanics
  • Learning a new skill
  • Assessing for appropriate equipment to enhance independence/function

Following a PT evaluation, if your child would benefit from our services, the therapist will collaborate with you to create a personalized treatment plan for your child. You will be involved in making functional goals, that are meaningful to both you and your child.
