After School Helping Hands

What is After School Helping Hands?

After School Helping Hands, an occupational therapy program for children with hemiplegia, provides constraint-induced movement therapy in a group setting so that it is a FUN after school experience. Kids seeing other kids with similar issues is often a unifying experience and can be more motivating to participate in therapeutic activities than individual therapy experiences.

This group can be considered a maintenance group for kids who attend our intensive “Camp” Helping Hands programs in the summer and/or winter.

Who Would Benefit?

Children with hemiplegia who exhibit areas for growth in:

  • Fine and gross motor
  • Balance and coordination
  • Visual-perceptual skills
  • Postural control/core strength
  • Sensory processing

Group Options

Prior to enrollment, an on-site visit will be scheduled with you and your child to determine the best placement based on their age and skill sets.

Parents are interviewed prior to the program to gather up-to-date information about your child. We use an assessment tool that helps establish and prioritize the child’s functional goals and truly creates a system for the parents to be involved in the process. We welcome information from other therapists, schools, doctors, etc. in order to maximize the therapeutic experience.
